ServicesInterlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free service that locates and obtains books, articles, and audio/visual items that are not part of the Ross Pendergraft Library & Technology Center's collections. This service is available to currently enrolled students and presently employed staff and faculty with a valid library account that is in good standing.
ILLiad is an electronic system designed to streamline ILL services. The system allows users to request items, check status of requests, verify due dates, and more.
To get started with ILLiad, click the button above and enter your Tech username and password. The first time you log in you will need to complete a brief registration form and click submit.
Choose the type of item you want to request and fill in the item information. You will be sent an email when your item is ready for your pick up. You can check the progress of your requests by logging into ILLiad at any time. Please only use your ATU email.
Useful Tips:
When using library databases you may come across this symbol ILLiad if an item is not available in full text in our collection. Clicking on that opens Illiad prompting you to sign in and brings up the request form populated with the item information.
Note: If you see this symbol SFX and the above symbol, click this one first. The item may be available in another database and clicking it will take you to the full text article. If not return to database and use the ILLiad request.
Policy
Materials that are available in the Library should not be requested unless you are a Distance Learning Student (see below). However, items with a lost, missing, at the bindery, or on-reserve status may be requested. If an item is checked out you will have the option to request it directly in Find it... This will block the current user from renewing and you will be notified by email when the book is ready for you to pick up.
Do not request textbooks. As it is our policy not to intentionally purchase textbooks we do not request them through ILL. This does not include required reading such as novels or monographs. These materials may be requested.
Books and audio items are usually loaned for a period of two weeks. Video items are usually loaned for one week. No Renewals.
Return books and other ILL materials to the Reference Desk. Do not leave ILL items at the Circulation Desk and do not place any of them in book drops.
You are responsible for the materials from the time they are picked up until they reach the ILL Office.
ILL materials returned after the due date written on the paperwork with the material will result in an overdue fine of $1 per day.
The following items are unlikely to be received through ILL due to reciprocity policies; it is this library's policy not to lend these material types.
  • Reference materials
  • Special collections
  • Faculty reserves
  • DVDs
  • Games
  • LPs
  • Microforms *
  • Print journals/periodicals *
* Copies of requested articles from theses are loaned.
Distance Learning Students
Distance Learning (DL) students at Tech are defined as those who take classes exclusively online and live more than 25 miles from his or her home campus. It is our goal to meet the information needs of DL students as efficiently and effectively as those of on-campus students. Read more information about DL student library services.
DL students should use Illiad for ALL requests. There is no cost for shipping item to you, however it is your responsibility to pay the cost of returning the item. No return necessary of electronic or photocopied items. Please indicate that you are a DL student in the ILLiad request form Notes field.
Types of materials DL students can request:
Print books that are part of the circulating collection.
Specific articles or book chapters may be requested from the microfilm, government document, or print periodical collections. These requests can be digitized and emailed.
Winter Interims
Book requests made after the first week of December and article requests made after the second week of December will not be processed until the campus re-opens in early January. Contact the ILL office for more details.
